A motorcyclist has died in a collision on the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton

The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was travelling towards Harrogate when he came off his bike near Felliscliffe.

He was behind a silver Mercedes which had stopped behind a blue Ford Focus waiting to turn right near the Black Bull Hotel, at the junction of Constable Ridge Road, just before 11am on Sunday, March 17.

The rider was struck by a Land Rover Freelander travelling in the opposite direction and died at the scene of the collision, police have confirmed.

Now officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision and anyone who saw the motorcyclist or any of the vehicles – the Land Rover, Ford Focus or Mercedes - travelling along the A59 before the collision to contact them.

Anyone with any information is urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for TC Steve Wright, collar number 1309. Alternatively, email steve.wright1309@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene and to allow for the vehicles to be recovered, but has now reopened.

No-one else was injured.

The motorcyclist’s family have been informed but police say they are not yet in a position to release his identity.
