The Chief Executive of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust has welcomed the latest report into the quality of NHS care.

The recently published second Francis Report, on the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust found “catastophic” failings in care within the Trust.

Richard Ord of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust said it should be seen as an opportunity for everyone in the NHS to continually focus on the delivery of high quality care.

“Quality is at the heart of all we do at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust,” Mr Orde said.

“We always strive to get it right for every patient, every time, but recognise that sometimes things go wrong.

“When this happens, we do our best to listen and learn from any mistakes.

Mr Orde said the Trust had increased nursing levels on the in-patient wards and introduced a Community Stroke Team.

“We will continue to invest in nursing and other initiatives, like the development of our new cancer unit, the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, which is currently under construction.

“Although the Francis Report was prompted by serious concerns at one Trust in another part of the country, the lessons from there must be taken on by the whole NHS.

“We will be playing our part in examining the report closely to see what more we can do to improve the quality of care we deliver to ensure the continued confidence of those who use our services, both at Harrogate District Hospital and through our community based health services across North Yorkshire.”
