Tributes have been paid to a “bright” young girl who was killed after being hit by a train in Harrogate.

Becky Hunt, 17, was killed at Pannal Station last Friday morning. It it understood that she took her own life.

Tributes have been paid to the former Rosset student, who was studying for her A Levels at Harrogate Grammar School.

Headteacher at Harrogate Grammar School Richard Sheriff said: “We are all shocked and horrified by the tragic loss of a young woman who had so much going for her and such a bright future ahead.”

Becky had joined the school in September of this year to study for her final year of A Levels.

“She settled into her subjects well and was a very able, interested and engaging student,” said Mr Sheriff. “She had recently been working with staff regarding opportunities available to her following school, and was considering a number of possible future careers.

“Becky was a quiet, polite and valued member of the Sixth Form community and a keen horse rider out of school.

“The students in Becky’s year group have had a special assembly this morning and we will support them in any way we can in coping during this difficult time.

“All of our thoughts and prayers are with Becky’s mother and father as they try to come to terms with their loss.”

Becky had studied for her GCSEs at Rossett School before transferring to HGS.

Headteacher Pat Hunter said: “She is fondly remembered as a hard-working, diligent student with an interest in following a career in physiotherapy.

“Her death has come as a shock to us all as she seemed to have her future mapped out and had everything to live for. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”
