Trial for man accused of stroking feet

A man has been charged with three sex assaults after assistants at shops in Harrogate complained of having their feet stroked.

Harrogate magistrates heard last Thursday how Alan Ashton Kirby had been arrested after allegations were made by three different women, two at a shop in Parliament Street and one at premises in Oxford Street, of improper behaviour involving foot and ankle stroking.

When Kirby, 30, of Dragon View, Harrogate, pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual assault court chairman Philip Burns said magistrates were prepared to try the case themselves.

But Kirby said he wanted to be tried by a judge and jury and was bailed until March 7 when his case is expected to be sent to York Crown Court.

Mr Burns told him that in the meantime he had to stay out of the two shops where the offences were alleged to have taken place.
