A Knaresborough woman has achieved a long term goal by seeing her verses about events in the town make it into print.

Poet Sally Smith said: “Most of the poems are about actual events and real places, and include for instance one about a tree-fire in Jacob Smith Park, another about a wet Jubiolee event at Knaresborough Castle, and one about Otley Folk Festival.”

Sally set out to see her work published after being made redundant from her job at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Wetherby earlier this year. She had been writing poetry for many years, she said, and decided the next step was to see her work in print.

After months of work has now achieved that aim, and the book is ready to launch.

The book has also been illustrated by Knaresborough artist Helen Entwisle.

It is due to be published today, Thursday, October 25, and will be available to buy from Castlegate Books, Knaresborough for £4.99, or directly from Sally who can be contacted on 01423 868753.
