Teenage girl killed at Pannal station

A teenage girl has been killed after being hit by a train at Pannal station at rush hour this morning.
The girl, belived to be 17 years old and from Harrogate, was struck by a train travelling from Knaresborouh to Leeds at about 9.20am.
Police said there are no suspicious circumstances and no other people were involved. The station was busy at the time with commuters heading into Leeds.
Sgt Rob Pedley of the British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Police are investigating and next of kin will be informed.”
The train was the 0855 Knaresborough to Leeds service which left Harrogate at 0904. All trains were halted as police inquiries were carried out at the scene.

The line has now reopened but trains will not be stopping at Pannal as investigations continue.
Sgt Pedley said Pannal station is expected to reopen at around 11am. In the meantime commuters are being directed to the main bus routes along the A61.
There were seven police vans at the scene, and a fire engine.
