A teenage boy who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a coach near Menwith Hill is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The 14-year-old was airlifted by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough after the incident at 4.25pm on Thursday, March 21.

Police have confirmed a single deck coach and a Renault car were involved, and the young boy was taken to hospital by the air ambulance.

It is unclear why the boy, who police say is from Lancashire, was walking near the US- owned air base.

The road was closed for five hours while police investigated, and now officers are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact the officer on the case - TC 105 Macleod of Harrogate Roads Policing Group.

Call 101 and quote reference 317 of the log for Thursday, March 21.
