Swimming to help cure polio
Knaresborough Rotary Club is appealing for swimmers to take part in its annual fundraising drive to help stamp out polio across the world.
The second Knaresborough Rotary Club Swimarathon will take place at Knaresborough Swimming Pool on Saturday, February 23 between noon and 1pm.
Half of the funds raised will go towards Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign while the other half will go to other Knaresborough Rotary Club projects – details can be found at www.knaresborough.rotary1040.org.
The event is open to anyone aged eight years and over who can swim 100metres (four lengths of Knaresborough Swimming Pool) non stop and without swimming aids.
Those aged eight to 16 years must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.
The entry fee is £2 for those in full time education and £3 for adults, and includes entry to the pool which will be closed to general swim admissions during this time.
Swimmers are encouraged to gather sponsorship for their swim, which can be for a minimum of four lengths (100 metres) with a maximum swim time of 20 minutes, and if possible get sponsors to GiftAid their donations. Separate sponsor forms are available for Gift Aid.’
The event is being sponsored by Contract Natural Gas of Harrogate.
