St Peter’s vicar calls on General Synod to resign

The vicar of St Peter’s Church in Harrogate has stared an online petition to get the members of the General Synod to resign following last Tuesday’s vote on women bishops.

Rev Tony Shepherd, on www.change.com, has called on the church executive to stand down as he believes they do not represent the main body of the Church of England.

“If you looked at the Church as a major company which refused to acknowledge women at the highest level of that company you of course would not want to associate with it,” he said.

“Why then is the Church continuing in this discrimination of women amongst its ranks in this modern day – it makes the Church of England look thoroughly outdated and out of touch.”
