Fountains Earth School's triumphant tag rugby team (s)
Fountains Earth School, Lofthouse, are celebrating their tag rugby teams success and looking forward to a successful future of sport.
The tiny school has only 29 pupils but their team still came out on top of the 140 schools that competed in the Harrogate leg of the Yazoo Tag2Twickenham Challenge.
Team coach Ian Walker and dad Harry Hall, approached Nidderdale businesses, The Crown Pubs at Lofthouse and Middlesmoor, The Sportman’s Arms in Wath, the Studfold Nature Trail and the How Stean Gorge for funding and the team were fully kitted out in time for the Yorkshire Regional Playoffs.
Parent and Parent Governor Rachel Sorton-Hall said: “The children were really proud of their new kit. They played really well in the Yorkshire Regional Finals, only missing out on winning by two seconds and one point.
“They were extremely disappointed not be going to the final at Twickenham, but they all had a fantastic experience and showed great team spirit!”
Eight boys from the school now play for Wharfdale RUFC and one year six girl has been selected for the Yorkshire Netball Academy suggesting that the small school will have plenty more sporting success in the future.
