Children and staff at a Knaresborough are celebrating a remarkable turnaround in the school’s standards.

Inspectors have pronounced Meadowside School to be “outstanding in all areas” after an Ofsted visit before Christmas, just three years after the school received a “satisfactory with no good features” report after a similar inspection.

The school has gone from the third out of four possible gradings to the highest possible in that time, with inspectors now calling the pupils’ acheivement, quality of teaching, leadership and management, and children’s behaviour and safety all “outstanding”.

Headteacher, Nigel Ashley, said: “The whole school community is delighted with this acknowledgement of all that has been achieved at Meadowside. It is a very welcome recognition of the hard work and commitment consistently shown by our children and staff.”

And in the same time period, Meadowside has gone from being in the lowest one percent of the country, to the highest three percent.

In December, the National League Tables put the school’s results in the top 10 schools in North Yorkshire, and now Ofsted have confirmed this accolade with their report which said:

“Teaching is outstanding because the highly skilled teachers plan exciting lessons which allow pupils of all ages and abilities to be creative, work things out for themselves and produce a high standard of work”.
