Sixth Formers at King James’s have raised £310 for Martin House Hospice in memory of a friend and former pupil.

Matthew Roberts, who suffered from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, had been at KJS since 2006 and died last August at the age of 17.

On February 7, which would have been his 18th birthday, pupils in the school’s current sixth form decided to remember him with a non-uniform day to raise money.

Matt’s friend Rob Hill, who helped organise the day, said: “Matt was a popular character and he proved that despite his disability he was willing to participate in all forms of school activity.”
