POLL - streetlight blackout

A blackout has begun in Harrogate with a radical plan to save money by turning off street lights across the Harrogate and Knaresborough.

The County Council’s plans will see 4,800 street lights, about 58 per cent of the total number in Harrogate, turned off between midnight and 5am.

The council said the plans have been “rigorously risk assessed” but some residents are worried the dark streets will see an increase in crime.

Our web poll asks - do you feel nervous without streetlights lighting up roads around Harrogate in the middle of the night.
