Police raid ‘significant’ drugs site

A major drugs raid has uncovered a cannabis farm with more 500 plants near Boroughbridge, police have revealed.

Officers swooped on the address in Copgrove, between Staveley and Burton Leonard, north of Harrogate, on Tuesday, September 18.

They discovered more than 500 cannabis plants, as well as hydroponic equipment used for irrigation.

The size of the operation showed it was a major concern, police said.

Detective Sergeant Jason Marchant, of Harrogate CID, said: ”This was clearly a sophisticated operation run by professional criminals.

“This seizure has removed a significant amount of drugs from the supply chain.

“I want the raid to send a clear message to anyone involved with the production and supply of illegal drugs that their activities will not be tolerated. North Yorkshire Police will act quickly when we receive intelligence to disrupt criminal behaviour at every level.”

In 2010, a raid of a similar size uncovered cannabis plants said to be worth £125,000, and in May this year Harrogate police said four cannabis raids in the area overseveral months had uncovered plants with an estimated value of half-a-million pounds.

The investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the Copgrove site remains ongoing, a police spokesman said.

DS Marchant added: “If you can help to identify those responsible for this operation please contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact on 101, press option 2 and ask for Harrogate CID or email information to jason.marchant@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120156630.
