Police hunt rural burglars

Jewellery thieves struck three homes in the Nidderdale and Ripon areas in one night.

The homes in Blaisfield, Burnt Yates and Risplith were all targeted on the night of Friday, September 21.

Police are linking the three incidents because of the similarities in the burglaries.

All three are rural homes, and the thieves took jewellery from them all, a police spokesman said.

The thieves struck in Blaisfield between 8.30am and 4.45pm, in Burnt Yates between 9pm and 10.15pm, and Risplith between 4.25 and midnight.

In all cases they stole gold jewellery, in the Burnt Yates case a large amount of jewellery was taken, including antique jewellery.

Anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles or people in any of the areas is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Harrogate CID, or information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police also said they urge residents to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles or people, especially in remote rural areas. Report them to the police as soon as you can and note down registration numbers if possible, but don’t put yourself at risk. If you see a crime taking place, please call 999.
