Pateley council’s funding request
Pateley Bridge Town Council is to request an eight percent increase in its funding from the borough council after other grants were stopped.
Town councillors agreed to ask for a £1000 increase in the precept - the portion of council tax it receives from the borough council at a meeting on Tuesday, January 8.
The precept will go up from £12,645 to £13,645 for the financial year 2013/2014.
The increase will a mean £1.06 rise in yearly council tax for Band D properties in the town, the council has said.
The funding request comes after grant funding from the LEADER rural grant programme, which supported the Parish Caretaker scheme, came to an end.
After the success of the caretaker project, councillors decided to find another way to fund the popular scheme, in order to provide the service for residents and visitors, the council said.
Previously the precept increased from £11,865 to £12,043 for the financial year 2010/2011, and to £12,645 two years later.
After the increase Pateley Bridge’s precept is lower than 49 of the 78 parishes in the Harrogate district, the council added.
