Harrogate braced for icy conditions
Families enjoy the snow in Valley Gardens, Harrogate (s)
Commuters are being urged to plan their Monday morning journeys accordingly as temperatures in the Harrogate area are unlikely to rise above 0C tonight (Sunday).
North Yorkshire County Council is gritting priority roads through the night in a bid to beat the freeze, but icy roads mean motorists are advised to give themselves more time than usual on Monday, and take care while driving.
The Met Office has updated a yellow warning for ice to include Yorkshire.
A statement read: “A band of snow is spreading northwards across parts of southeastern and eastern England, as well as the Midlands and will reach parts of north Wales and northeast England during Sunday afternoon and evening. This will bring accumulations of 2-5 cm snow to some areas, and perhaps in excess of 8 cm towards coastal counties of southeast and eastern England. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.”
On Saturday, sport fixtures across the Harrogate area were wiped out after snowfall during Friday and into Saturday night.
However, people got out and about to enjoy the snow, with youngsters heading to the Stray with their sledges and to make snowmen.
