Fire and Rescue crews from North and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services will be taking part in an exercise at Harrogate College tomorrow, Sunday, February 17.

The exercise, which will involve 10 fire engines along with several specialist vehicles, has been designed to test the Services’ mass decontamination procedures.

The exercise initially involves a parcel being delivered to the College which when opened releases an unidentified dust cloud into a room occupied by staff and students, a number of people within the room then begin to feel unwell.

Fire and Rescue crews will respond to the ‘incident‘ and put into practice decontamination procedures, including setting up cordons and working alongside the specialist Detection, Identification and Monitoring team from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Group Manager Mal Austwick from North Yorkshire and Rescue Service said; “This exercise is part of the training programme we have in place to ensure our staff are prepared to deal with a variety of incidents. I would like to thank Harrogate College for allowing us to use their site to train, and test our procedures in a controlled environment.” Fire and Rescue crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be taking part in an exercise at Harrogate College on Sunday 17th February.
