There is now less than a week left to nominate your star volunteer for this year’s Harrogate and Disrict Volunteering Oscars so don’t delay and get your nomination in now before it’s too late.

Now in it’s fifth year the awards aim to celebrate and recognise the hard work that many people in our communty give up for good causes.

The awards are organised by former mayor County Coun John Fox, Ackrill Media Group and the Harrogate and Ripon Councils for Volunteer Service. The awards ceremony this year is to be held at the Old Swan Hotel on Friday, November 16. Coun Fox said: “It is a testament to how highly volunteers are regarded by our community.”

We are seeking nominations in 15 different catagories: Young Volunteer of the Year, Care Volunteer of the Year, Community Volunteer of the Year, Environment Volunteer of the Year, Sports Volunteer of the Year, Unsung Heros in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Boroughbridge and Nidderdale, New Volunteer of the Year, Trustee of the Year, Organisation of the Year, Corporate Engagement Award, Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Volunteer.

Caroline Shead, manager at Harrogate Volunteer Centre said: “It’s a really nice chance for people who volunteer to be recognised and to feel special.

“Some people just think that they really don’t do very much but just one hour a week could make a huge difference.”

All of the nominees are invited to attend the ceremony, last year over 300 people enjoyed the evening.

Those who can’t choose just one volunteer are encouraged to nominate their whole team under the Organisation of the Year category. Caroline Shead said: “It’s a nice night out and a lovely way to say thank you to a whole team of volunteers.”
