Nidderdale’s Christmas celebration are set to begin in earnest with the St Nicholas Festival this weekend.

The festivities will kick off with the famous lantern parade on Friday, December 7, followed by arts, crafts and community events throughout the weekend.

The children’s lantern parade will start at 6pm, leaving from the Pateley Bridge Auction Mart. The “starry starry night” parade will be led Tewit Youth Parade Band and will make its way to The Old Workhouse Museum where the Lofthouse and Middlesmoor Band will play carols.

Friday will also host late night opening in Pateley Bridge and there will be free parking in the town.

The festival continues throughout the weekend with events including the St Nicholas Fair on Saturday, December 8, 10am-1pm, in Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall with music, stalls and Santa.

An arts and crafts fair will also take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Masonic Hall; and entertainments will circulate around the town.

Sunday will see the St Nicholas Service at St Cuthbert’s Church and reindeers, llamas and other animals will visit the Auction Mart in the afternoon.

Saturday will also be the first night of the Coldstone Cut Illuminations when the iconic sculpture will be lit up from 5-11pm every night until December 20.

On Saturday there will be refreshments available, in aid of charity, from 7-8.30pm. Visitors should go prepared with warm clothing, suitable footwear and a torch as the path towards the Cut is not lit.
