Date:27th February 2013. Juliette, formerly 'Wonky' a 12 weeks old Staffordshire Cross, who was born with two deformed front legs after weeks of intensive physiotherapy by staff at the Dogs Trust, York Road, Leeds, is on the way to making a full recovery.

This abandoned puppy has pawed her way into the hearts of hundreds across the world.

And now, 13-week-old Staffordshire cross Juliette, initially known as “Wonky”, could be on her way to a loving owner in Harrogate.

Juliette was found abandoned on the streets of Leeds suffering from a horrific condition affecting her legs.

More than 600 people answered a Dog’s Trust call to home Wonky, after the charity’s Leeds centre worked to help her recover from the severe knuckling of her carpal joints.

And centre manager Amanda Sands revealed some of that interest has come from Harrogate.

She said: “People have called from all over the UK, and there have been plenty from Harrogate.

“We are looking to home her fairly locally. The people who have expressed interest will come up to the centre and fill out a home-finding form.

“We will go through these forms and select the most suitable. This will be done in the next few days.”

Wonky’s condition is caused by a contraction of the tendons which prevent her wrist joint from extending fully.

Her front feet bend inwards because her tendons are too short. The centre believes the pup was removed from her mother too early, and then abandoned.

At the Leeds centre, Juliette has been undergoing 30 physiotherapy sessions a day in a bid to correct the condition.

Commenting on the huge interest in Wonky’s situation, Amanda said: “It has been absolutely crazy!

“We have had people from Australia, America and Europe contacting us.

“Wonky is doing really well, she is 100 times better now than she was when she first got here.”

Dogs Trust Leeds Vet John Wannop said: “The long term prognosis for her I think is very good.

“She will need to be kept under review until we see how she goes but so far so good with this and we are very pleased with her progress.”

A spokesperson for Dogs Trust added: “Staff are currently sifting through 600 applications to take Juliette in, and are confident she will get a happy new home soon.”
