Beat the school bell cycle race

Parents of pupils at St John’s CofE Primary School are getting in the spirit of the Tour de France with a cycling race to raise funds for the school.
Around 20 people, staff and parents, have signed up to ‘beat the bell’ by completing a 50k circuit during the school day.
After the morning bell rings for class, the team will set off from the school through Staveley, Boroughbridge, Bishop Monkton, Markington, Ripley, Nidd and Scotton then back to Knaresborough before the end school bell rings.
Parent Susan Clegg said: “None of us are expert cyclists but it seemed like it would be a good challenge.”
St John’s C0fE Primary School hope to raise £10,000 for new IT equipment for the school.
Mrs Clegg said: “The teaching staff are all showing there support to the cause and we will be accompanied by a couple of teaching assistants as well.
“We will have a support car with us with us just in case but hopefully it will just be to carry drinks and spares.”
The team have signed up to Just Text Giving so people can donate by texting BIKE30 £ (insert amount) to 70070.
Staff from three local businesses have kick-started the teams fundraising.
Tom Boston from car sales direct, Brian Gouldsborough and Richard Boston from car buyers direct and Kenneth Lupton and Richard Hunter from KR motors LTD have each given £200, giving the team a £600 boost.
Mr Gouldsborough said: “It’s a great idea to raise money for the new IT equipment and a good way for us to put something back into the local community.”
The race will take place on March 1 weather permitting.
