Tea party: thanks to Pat Wormald for getting in touch with me about a Coronation anniversary tea party to be held on Saturday, June 8 at the Green Hut, Harlow Community Centre on Harlow Avenue from 2-4pm. Admission is free and tea, coffee and scones will be on sale. You can try your hand at a Royal quiz to mark the occasion. There will be bunting and flags and you are invited to dress up in red, white and blue! All proceeds will go towards new tables for the community centre.

Yard sale: Janette Peak contacted me this week about a yard sale she and Ian will be running on Sunday, May 26 at their home 51 Wharfedale Avenue on Harlow Hill from 10am-2pm. This is a fundraising event for Open Arms, a Harrogate based charity, supporting orphaned children in Malawi. Amongst things on sale will be quality household items, bric a brac, costume jewellery and books at very reasonable prices. Janette sent me these facts about Malawi: there are over 1m orphaned children in Malawi which is more than 10 per cent of the population of children. 65 per cent of the orphans have lost their parents as a result of HIV and AIDS. The money it is hoped to raise at the sale will mean so much. £10 will pay for: food for a child for one month, a mosquito net, one month’s supply of protein supplement or an outreach visit to check the status of a child who has been returned to their community. For more information on Open Arms, the website is www.openarmsmalawi.org Your support would be most welcome for this event.

Friendship Club: this Harlow based club for over 50s meets each Wednesday afternoon at 2.30pm at the Green Hut, Harlow Community Centre. On Wednesday, May 29 there will be a friendship afternoon with quiz and on Wednesday, June 5 members welcome Pat Clarke who has as the theme of his talk, recreation in the Yorkshire Dales. Meetings of the club will continue until the end of June. For more information please contact Pat Wormald on 508867.
