HAMPSTHWAITE, CLINT AND BURNT YATES

Burnt Yates Cricket Club: on Saturday, June 29, the 1st team is playing Ouseburn 2 away while the 2nd team is at home to Helperby 3. Both matches get underway at 2pm.

Burnt Yates School News: earlier this month, the juniors had a day out taking part in the Countryside Day held at the Yorkshire Show Ground when they saw animals in action, made and ate their own sausages and made a willow bird feeder. The matches in the Nidderdale League football concluded with those competing from Years 3 and 4 coming a very creditable third. Some of the children also took part in the Kwik cricket at Pateley Bridge winning two of their matches. Closer to home, 16 children from Burnt Yates who were joined by children from other schools took part in an orienteering event in the school grounds. Such was the success it was decided to take part in an event in the grounds of Ripley Castle.

Hampsthwaite WI News: the meeting on Monday, July 1 will take place at Pateley Bridge Museum when Dorothy Newall will be talking about The History of Hats. This follows on from a talk in 2011 by Dorothy on Undies through the Ages when she brought her selection to Hampsthwaite. As if one outing in a month is not enough, the ladies will also be enjoying a trip on July 4 with the bus leaving at 9.30am from the Memorial Hall in Hampsthwaite. It will be a very full day with a guided tour of the United Reform Church Saltaire and a walk round the village followed by a talk about the Wurlitzer organ at the Victoria Hall which was once the organ in Dale Hall, Hampsthwaite. There will be free time in Saltaire to look at the largest collection of paintings in the country by David Hockney, perhaps or wander round the streets of this World Heritage site. The day will be rounded off with high tea hosted by the ladies of Embsay and Eastby W.I. The cost is £22 for members and £26 non members. To book a place ring Ann Dixon on 569153 or Margaret Hardcastle on 770246

YCA News: the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 7.30pm at the school in Burnt Yates when Neil Richmond will be reminding everyone of Radio Musical Themes and holding a quiz. Please note a change of venue for the meeting on August 6 when Linda Le Flock is giving a talk on Digestion that it will be at the Bay Horse Community Centre and not as advertised in the programme.
