HARROGATE’S Garden of Remembrance was opened on Monday with servicemen, both past and present, in attendance.
Members of the public were also invited to pay their respects at the special site, which is situated next to the war memorial, and lay personal remembrance crosses.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate, Les and Christine Ellington, were also present.
Joint Poppy Appeal organiser, Mike Comerford, was pleased with the response.
“The event was very well attended,” he said.
“The appeal was launched at the end of the October and last year we raised over £63,000. But we’re looking to break that amount this year.”
The Poppy Appeal supports the Royal British Legion, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
