A number of fire crews were called to a property on Montpellier Parade this lunchtime after a strong smell of burning was reported by residents.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at around 1pm to reports that burning could be smelled above the Caroline Gardener Design building

Four fire engines arrived on Montpellier Hill and confirmed a strong smell of burning on the main staircase of the building.

Firefighters at the scene said they did not believe there were any residents inside the building.

Crews were unable to find a cause for the smell but said they may carry out a revisit of the property later this afternoon.
