A fierce fire which ripped through a field in Ripley has destroyed more than 800 bales of hay.
The huge flames could be seen for miles around after the blaze broke out near Ripley Roundabout shortly after 8pm last night (Sunday).
Firefighters from across the district were called in to help, firefighters said, with the fire dying down by 10.30pm.
“At one point we had five appliances in attendance,” a spokesman said.
“Most of these left by 10.30pm, although we did leave one pump in attendance overnight, just keeping a watch.”
The scale of the fire was said to be 50m by 30m wide, and could be seen from miles around.
“At this stage the cause is unknown,” the spokesman added.
