A fire which broke out at a property in Whixley at midday on Saturday has left a house with “substantial” smoke damage.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Church St, believed to have started in the property’s utility room, at around 1.15pm.

Fire crews from Knaresborough and Boroughbridge, as well as crews from an aerial ladder platform from Harrogate, extinguished the blaze.

The property was left with “substantial” smoke damage to the whole of the building, a spokesman said, while the room the fire started in was completely destroyed.
