FIREFIGHTERS from Harrogate have been working through the night to dampen a moor fire in Blubberhouses.
They were called to Hanging Moor, off Greenhow Hill, shortly before 2pm yesterday (Tuesday), calling for backup from across North and West Yorkshire as the sheer size of the blaze became apparent.
A local farmer joined fire crews from Northallerton, Otley, Skipton, Tadcaster and Summerbridge as they fought to tackle the fire, using hoses and beaters.
It is believed the fire started on bracken and their were five separate ‘seats’ of fire, five different areas where it took hold.
The cause is still under investigation but it is believed to have started as a result of controlled burning which got out of hand.
