The funeral will take place next week of Rosemary Reaks, one of Harrogate’s best-loved and longest-standing musicians.

Her son, musician, poet and artist Ashley Reaks, who is himself familiar to Harrogate music audiences, said: “My mum played piano with my dad Michael in The Ray Horner Combo from Harrogate from the early 1950’s and they were still playing gigs together until a few weeks ago.”

Ashley featured recently in the Harrogate Advertiser’s Harrogate Top Ten All-Time Musicians features, having inherited his musical talent from his parents.

Rosemary and Michael were both from Wensleydale originally but moved to Harrogate in the early 1950’s. They returned to live in the Dales after Michael retired in 2000.

Rosemary remained active to the end with The Ray Horner Combo who were well known from years of live engagements in the area and headlined dance nights at the sizable Manhattan Club in Harrogate playing modern and old time rock and roll dancing.

The funeral will take place at at 1pm on Wednesday, October 12 at the Holy Trinity Church, Low Lane, Wensley, Leyburn.
