Harrogate Borough Council’s garden waste collection service will stop from next month, when demand for the service reduces because of the low levels of green waste being produced.

The last garden waste collection for 2016 will be made between Monday November 28 and Friday December 9 depending on which week your garden waste is due to be collected.

The service will begin again between Monday March 13 and Friday March 24 2017 but in the interim garden waste can still be recycled at the waste recycling centres in Harrogate and Ripon.

Councillor Michael Harrison, the council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste Reduction and Recycling, said: “Over the winter months, people do less gardening and as a result less garden waste is produced, so suspending the service is a sensible and cost effective option.

Residents in the Harrogate district are extremely keen to recycle both their household and garden waste and I would like to thank them for all their efforts in helping us to have a greener district.

“All households with a garden waste bins should start putting them out again as part of their normal recycling collection week starting Monday 13 March or Monday 20 March.”

Currently, the council is only able to offer a kerbside bin collection service for garden waste to approximately 60 per cent of residential properties in the district.

Information about the new service will be available early next year.
