Four of the Harrogate district's most luscious and scenic parks are in the running for a national award, and they need your help to win it.

Harrogate’s Valley Gardens, Ripon’s Spa Gardens, Bebra Gardens in Knaresborough and Knaresborough's Castle Gardens have all been nominated in the search to find the UK’s Best Park.

The competition is open to all public green spaces across the UK, with people asked to nominate and vote for the park they believe should be given the title of the nation's best.

Councillor Michael Harrison, Harrogate Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “As a district, we have an enviable collection of fabulous parks and open spaces, which is reflected in the fact that we have no less than four in the running to be the best in the country.

“It would be another, well deserved accolade if a park from our district could walk away with the title of UK’s Best Park, and a fitting testimony to all the hard work that Friends, volunteers and council staff put into the parks throughout the year.”

The competition is run by Fields in Trust, a charity organisation dedicated to highlighting the vital role of parks and green spaces for enjoyment, relaxation and activities.

Fields in Trust Chief Executive Helen Griffiths said: "It's a fantastic example of how, with the advocacy and support of local volunteers and champions who can really get behind a green space, you can transform its fortunes to change it into something that is well-used and well-loved.

"Our awards help recognise the role that our parks play in our communities, bringing people together and creating a safe outdoor environment that everyone should be entitled to. We want to celebrate them and invite all park users to vote for their favourite green space."

Voting is now open and closes at 5pm on Wednesday November 9 before the winners are revealed at Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday 30 November.

The park with the most votes in each of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be shortlisted. CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR YOUR PARK
