An elderly woman was led to safety by firefighters early this morning after burnt toast started a small blaze at her Harrogate home.
The 86-year-old, said to be in a confused state when firefighters arrived at 5.20am, was given oxygen at the scene but did not need to be taken to hospital.
A spokesman for the fire service said they had first been called at 5.17am, alerted by a monitored fire alarm, and were on the scene at Regent Avenue withing three minutes.
They helped the lady from the smoke-filled property, calling paramedics who gave her a precautionary check.
The fire, already out by the time firefighters arrived, was caused by burnt toast they said.
