While many students and parents were winding down and looking forward to the long summer holidays, those at St Nicholas C of E Primary School in West Tanfield were are already preparing for next term.

Pupils at St Nicholas C of E Primary School tried out the new breakfast club which will be part of a new before and after school facility the school is running from September.

Students can attend from 7.45am and enjoy a healthy filling breakfast before playing with games and puzzles, reading, or getting creative, drawing and story writing.

Students have given the club a big thumbs up and one pupil said: “It’s a great way to start my day and I also get the chance to catch up with my friends before school starts.”

Another was so impressed she asked to go in earlier the next morning.

St Nicholas was judged to be a Good school by Ofsted earlier in the year.

It benefits from high quality teaching with good resources and extensive on site outdoor areas including large playing fields, refurbished KS1 free flow play and learn area, plus its own nature area.

“We are very excited to be extending our facilities to meet the needs of the school and the local community,” said Headteacher Mrs Peacock.

“St Nicholas is an aspirational and inclusive school and we strive to provide an outstanding education for all.

“We are implementing a three-class structure with small class sizes of 15 to 20 pupils which aims to ensure the needs of each individual is met and all pupils achieve their full potential.

“We are a forward looking school which looks to inspire pupils and to equip them with the skills, confidence and happiness to lead a rewarding, fulfilling and successful life.”
