St Aidan’s names new headteacher

St AIDAN’S High School has announced a familiar face as its new headteacher.

John Wood, who has been a teacher at the school for more than 30 years, will take over from January 1 next year after Dennis Richards steps down.

Since starting as as a religious studies teacher in September 1977, Mr Wood has taken on other responsibilities, including serving as assistant headteacher.

He said: “I am extremely fortunate to be chosen to lead a wonderful school with a brilliant staff team, completely dedicated to helping all the school’s pupils achieve to the best of their ability.

“Although I will of course bring my own ideas and style to the job, the school’s values and ethos will remain unchanged.”

Mr Wood is also known as chairman of the Harrogate International Youth Festival and through his involvement with St Mark’s Church.

Chairman of governors Claire Kelley said: “He is an exceptional teacher who enjoys the full support of colleagues, parents and pupils in the school.”
