The cool breezy conditions did little to dampen the enthusiasm for competitors and supporters of the annual Knaresborough Fun Run and Gala, held at King James’s School last weekend (May 12).
Over 170 runners took part in the 10km trail race through the Nidderdale countryside with Martin Hilton winning the race for the third year running.
Helena Schofield from Thirsk was the first female to complete the race.
The fun run attracted a more varied crowd, many of whom were happy just to finish!
King James’s pupils Rebecca Wood and Jack Brennan won their respective senior sections and Jessica Jones (who still needs to collect her trophy from the school) and Joe Bryant winning the juniors.
Meanwhile, on the school field, Howard “Howdidoodi” Corrin did an excellent job with music and enthusiastic commentary and both Studio 3 dancers and Silat martial arts academy put on great displays.
The main sponsor, Piccadilly Motors, was also present along with local supermarket Lidl who supplied much-appreciated drinks for all finishers and Piranha Print who supplied the winners’ t-shirts.
Local charities including The Rotary Club and Guide Dogs for the Blind, attended and the event regularly raises over £10,000 for local charities.
