Pupils and staff at St Robert’s Catholic Primary School welcomed MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough Andrew Jones to open their new multi -use games area which will allow pupils to play extra-curricular sports year-round.

Headteacher Mr Paul O’Rourke praised the work of the PTA in raising substantial funds to allow the project to take place and said: “This will allow sport to be in its rightful place, at the heart of the primary school curriculum, increasing opportunities for sport for many years to come.”

Chair of Governors, Mr Nick Kelly, spoke of the close knit school community.

He said: “We know that families are vital in allowing the school to fulfil our mission to provide a holy place of safety to love, learn and grow.

“The games area along with a range of other improvements we are making to the resources of the school will ensure we continue to provide our pupils with the very best opportunities for success.”

Mr Jones said: “It was great to open this new facility and see just how much all the children were looking forward to using it.

“Congratulations to the PTA for all their hard work over the past 3 years, raising the money to create this marvellous new facility.”
