Sixty children between the ages of six and seven years from Western School, between showers, assisted Friends Of Valley Gardens volunteer gardeners planting thousands of bulbs, in the Peat Garden adjacent to the Old Magnesia Well Pump Room on Wednesday.

MP Andrew Jones and the Mayor Cllr Jim Clark and Mayoress Cllr Shirley Fawcett welcomed the children and offered encouragement.

Anemones, snowdrops, cyclamen, winter aconites and leucojum were planted around the trees and drifts of narcissi in the open areas.

This morning the volunteer gardeners planted bluebells and to-morrow they will continue with a day’s bulb planting on the Rock Garden.

Further bulbs will be planted in the eastern woodland area of the Peat Garden and under the Magnolia tree next week.

On behalf of Friends Of Valley Gardens thank you very much Western School for helping us and we look forward to Spring and a wonderful floral display in the Peat Garden.
