More than 600 people packed into Rossett School’s sports hall on Wednesday to celebrate the life of science teacher Dave Charlesworth, who died in May.
Staff and students both past and present, parents, friends and family came together for a special event that was deeply touching yet also inspiring and, at times, humorous. Nearly everyone wore an item of orange clothing in recognition of Mr Charlesworth’s favourite colour – represented in everything from his holdall to his shirts.
Headteacher Pat Hunter paid tribute to Mr Charlesworth, saying: “He had a positive influence on the lives of so many people and we all feel proud to have known him for his approachable manner, enthusiasm and support.”
The different faces of ‘Mr C – the legend’ were all represented, from his love of gourmet food and the arts to the way his care and concern for students extended well beyond the boundaries of the school day. There were also musical tributes, including a particularly moving rendition of Over the Rainbow by Abi Condon and a presentation by Harrogate MIND.
The evening ended with the release of 200 orange balloons into the blue June sky over Harrogate.
