Children at Fountains CE Primary School and Fountains Playgroup have taken part in a competition to design Christmas cards themed around their namesake Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal.

The competition was judged by Justin Scully, General Manager, Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal.

Justin said: “This project was a great opportunity to see the estate through the eyes of a child! It was lovely to visit the school and meet the children. The quality of the artwork was very impressive and judging was extremely difficult.

“All of the Christmas festivities began last weekend at Fountains Abbey and I hope that our visitors will enjoy the cards.”

The winning designs have been professionally printed and are now available to buy at the visitor centre gift shop at Fountains Abbey.

Dawn Rogers, Playgroup Manager explained: “All the Playgroup children visited Fountains Abbey for our seasonal walk. We imagined that we were Carol Singers outside the Cellarium and took some photographs.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed recreating the scene with finger painting and glitter. We are very excited that it has been printed and is for sale in the National Trust shop.”

All proceeds from the cards will go to the school and playgroup to help provide educational resources to support the children.

Headteacher Karen Butler, said: “The children have designed some beautiful cards for the competition and have really captured the beauty of the Fountains estate.

“I would like to thank the children for all their hard work and I would particularly like to thank Justin Scully and the National Trust for this opportunity.”
