A load of rubbish sorted by pupils

Lessons for Year 1 pupils at Gateways School in Harewood were a load of old rubbish.

But it was okay as there was a master plan for the youngsters to learn about recycling.

They took in lots of discarded packaging to create a classroom rubbish dump last week.

The pupils then sorted through it, using their recently gained knowledge of different materials to decide which bits could be recycled, reduced or reused.

Class teacher Mrs Cecilia Warren commented: “The children had a great day learning about the importance of looking after our world by thinking about what we do with our rubbish and what would happen if we didn’t look after it.”
