IF you missed yesterday’s April Fool, you can read about it here.

Yesterday morning, the Advertiser announced on Twitter that there were plans to allow cars on the Stray.

“REVEALED: Harrogate Council report announces path-widening plan to allow driving on Stray for first time. Trial expected from November,” the ‘story’ read.

“Coun Sharon Bromance has called the plans: “A long overdue move to ease congestion in Harrogate”, but Stray Defence Assoc are “hopping mad”,” we added.

The response was overwhelmingly negative.

“Driving on Stray paths? You’ve GOT to be kidding? Seriously? One step closer to losing the Stray’s uniqueness! No No No No,” said one resident.

Another said: “So people are not allowed to run on it but they can drive accross it!?? #Hypocritical #SaveOurStray #HBC”, while a third added: “Build a northern by-pass! It will get less opposition!”

Lots of others responded by shouting “APRIL FOOL!” at us.

Incidentally, Sharon Bromance was the fictional resident named in last year’s April Fool about a hat up a tree, which is still doing the rounds on the web and appeared in Shortlist magazine as a genuine news item.
