A derelict music studio in Harrogate has been destroyed in a blaze which is believed to have been set deliberately.

Firefighters from Harrogate asked for back up after they were called to the blaze at the former BASH studios on Harlow Moor Road last night (Thursday).

They had been told there was a fire in the open near the old water works but arrived at 8.30pm to find the single-storey studio was “well-alight” with flames that could be seen for miles around.

“At one point there was a strong smell of gas at the site but Transco have attended and isolated the supply,” a spokesman for the fire service said last night.

“Although crews have now come away from the incident, they will be reattending on Friday due to a number of hot spots under the floor which has now become unsafe.

“At this point the cause is believed to be deliberate but investigations will continue.”
