Harrogate Town AFC and Sainsbury’s are hosting a day of sport for children in Harrogate this summer.
Year 4 and 5 pupils who have not represented their school in competition are urged to get involved in the June 6 event at Rossett School.
Activities on the day will include Olympic and Paralympic events, and all schools in the area have been invited to take part.
The theme of the day is based on the supermarket’s Active Kids initiative, backed by sporting icons David Beckham and Ellie Simmonds.
Sainsbury’s Harrogate store manager Steve Thompson said: “We have invited children from local schools to take part in a Day of Sport for All. This will feature children of all abilities and encourage them to take part and become active.”
Jo Bonsels of Rossett School said: “This day will give our older pupils the opportunity to use their leadership skills and be involved with the younger pupils.”
MP Andrew Jones added: “Encouraging activity in young people is fantastic, and I applaud the community activity of both Harrogate Town AFC and Sainsbury’s The Active Kids scheme has grown year on year.
“Building on the success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is a fantastic idea.”
The Active Kids scheme allows customers to collect vouchers which can be redeemed by registered organisations such as schools, nurseries, scout and guide groups and sports clubs.
