Dacre, Darley and Summerbridge
Darley Defibrillator: there is now an AED – Automated Emergency Defibrillator – situated in a box outside Darley Post Office, which is available for use in the local area. It includes both picture and audio instructions so that anyone can use it, and rest assured that it will not operate if the person does not need it. However, if he or she does need, it could save their life. Included in the box is a list of local residents who have been trained in the use of the AED and can be called upon to help if you want extra support. Anyone who would like to undertake training and join this list should contact the clerk on 780970 or e-mail email@example.com.
Darley Heritage Day: the second book of photographs and memories of Darley, produced by Darley Heritage Group is now being printed. It is called Darley Celebrations and covers village celebrations of all types throughout the past 100 years, right up to the present day. The book will be launched at another Darley Heritage Day in Christ Church Community Centre on Saturday, November 10. The Heritage Day, with exhibitions of Darley celebration photos old and new, and displays by other local heritage groups will be open 11am-3pm, with the actual launch of the book at 12.15pm. Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. The book will be available at the Heritage Day at £7 (normal price £7.95). Darley Remembrance Day Concert: due to illness, there will not be a concert in Darley Memorial Hall this year. Arrangements may be made for a short commemoration and laying of the wreath. Call Keith on 780258 for further details.
Darley Jubilee Arch: with support from Darley in Bloom, Menwith with Darley Parish Council has combined the repair of the bridge across Fringill Beck with a commemorative feature. The Darley Jubilee Arch, commemorating the Diamond Jubilee and featuring the Darley deer’s head was constructed by Wrought Iron Solutions and has recently been installed, making the area both safer and more attractive.
Darley Bonfire Night: celebrate Guy Fawkes Night on Monday, November 5 at Darley Playing Fields, Station Road, Darley. Big bonfire, sparkling firework display and traditional food and drink on sale. Admission £2 adults; £1 children. Bonfire lit at 7pm. Fireworks from 7.30pm. Please no dogs, no alcohol and do not bring your own fireworks.
Summerbridge Players: tickets (£5) now on sale at Summerbridge Post Office (phone 01423 780248) for the hilarious Summerbridge Players Christmas Show; Bad Day at Black Frog Creek. On Thursday, November 29-Saturday, December 1, 7.45pm at Dacre Village Hall. Pantomime fun for all.
50/50 auction: at Summerbridge Methodist Church School Room on Saturday, November 3 at 6pm. Goods donated to a 50/50 Auction Sale are sold under the hammer for the best possible price, and the proceeds are divided equally between the donor and the church. Please have a look round for something to sell and contact Mrs Helen Gill, Nidd View, Summerbridge 780365. Goods will either be accepted at the door or collected by us on the morning of the sale. Viewing will be 2-4pm in the afternoon when there will also be a cake stall.
If you have nothing suitable for the auction but feel you could bake a cake for our stall, please deliver to the hall in the morning or phone the above number for collection. Admission to the auction will be by catalogue £1 (including refreshments). Lots must be removed from the hall on the Saturday evening after the sale. Please remember this is not a jumble sale and good quality goods, minimum value £1 will only be accepted.
Summerbridge WI: next meeting is at 6.30pm on Monday, November 5, when we meet at Jane Lowthers home for a social evening with supper. For further details ring 780479.
The Royal Oak Quiz, Dacre Banks: the next quiz will be on Sunday, November 11. Start 8pm. To raise funds for Summerbridge Players. The quiz has a £2.50 entry fee per person, included is a pie and pea supper. Preferably teams of no more than four but not enforced. It is advisable to ring Anna or Steve on 780200 and book a table. This also helps with the catering, although not essential, just come and have some fun we will find you a space. Summerbridge Players need your support. Oh yes they do.
Bonfire Night: the Upper Nidderdale Scout Group will be holding their annual Community bonfire night and spectacular firework display on Saturday, November 3 on the Showgroud in Pateley Bridge by kind permission of The Agricultural Society and invite everyone in the community to join them for what is a most enjoyable fun evening. As usual refreshments including burgers, hot dogs and various hot and cold drinks will be available to purchase. The evening commences at approx 6.30pm. We would welcome some help with wood for the bonfire and if anyone can assist on this front could they deposit it at the usual site in the Showground.
