POLICE in Harrogate are appealing for witnesses after a man allegedly cut a wheel clamp off his own van.
An untaxed white Vauxhall Astra van was clamped outside the Coop on Leeds Road shortly after noon on Monday, March 26.
Sometime before 3.30pm the yellow triangular clamp was cut off the vehicle and left resting against a nearby tree.
A 26-year-old local man, who was driving the van, has been arrested in connection with the offence. He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
PC Raheel Akram, of Harrogate police, said: “We are trying to establish how the clamp was removed and whether the suspect was assisted by a third-party in cutting the clamp off.
“It is believed that a trolley jack may have been used in this incident and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.”
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Raheel Akram or Harrogate police.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
