VANDALS have covered every piece of play equipment in a Strensall park with spray-on cooking oil.
The criminal damage on Kirklands happened at some time between 3pm on Saturday, April 14 and the following Monday.
Police said a number of children used the play park before they realised that the equipment had been damaged, which left them with their clothing stained.
PC Karl May, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is a disgraceful act of vandalism, targeting an innocent group in our community.
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the vandalism or has information that could help to identify those responsible. I urge them to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.”
PC May added: “As well as staining the children’s clothing, the parish council had to purchase specialist cleaning equipment to repair the damage.”
“The oil left the equipment in a very slippery condition which could have caused an injury to a child.”
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact York police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Karl May.
