Heartless thieves have stolen two beloved miniature dachshunds and police are appealing for information to help being them home.

Roxie and Queenie, pedigree dachshunds aged two and six, were stolen from a house between Plompton Woods and Spofforth at around midday on Tuesday.

Queenie has been suffering from a severe slipped disc and needs daily medication - without this her back legs could collapse.

Sgt Matt Hagen, of Knaresborough Police, said: “Roxie and Queenie’s owners are absolutely distraught at the loss of their beloved pets.

“We would particularly like to speak to the occupants of a Mercedes Vito panel van which was parked near to the owner’s home as they could have vital information which could help our investigation.”

Police say the thieves struck at the house off the A661 between 11.45am and 2.10pm on Tuesday.

Anyone who knows anything about the thefts or knows the whereabouts of the two dogs is asked to call police urgently on 101, select option 1 and ask for Cheryl Power. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555111.
