UPDATE: Elderly man knocked over on Station Parade in critical condition

Police have launched a witness appeal after a serious incident on Station Parade has left an elderly man in critical condition.

Police were called to the scene at around 1.40pm, on Wednesday October 21, after reports that an 83-year-old man had been hit by a car near the bus station.

The man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains in critical condition,

The driver of the car involved was an 81-year-old man from Boroughbridge in a black Volkswagen Golf.

Police say the driver was shaken up but otherwise uninjured and has been helping police with their enquiries.

The road was closed and bus services were delayed by nearly half an hour on the day of the incident.
