A ROOKIE driver, who forced another motorist on to a footpath because she was on the wrong side of the road in Starbeck, pleaded guilty to careless driving on Monday.
Harrogate magistrates fined 22-year-old Rachel Claire Lund £160 with £45 costs, a £15 victim surcharge and five penalty points when she pleaded guilty by letter to careless driving, telling the court she had passed her driving test on July 27, just a few weeks before the incident.
Lund, of Diamond Place, Harrogate, who wrote that she was ‘‘mortified’’ by what had occurred on September 9 as Robin Sheridan drove away from Starbeck level crossing towards Knaresborough to be confronted by her black Ford Fiesta headed towards him.
Prosecutor Steven Ovenden said Mr Sheridan had to swerve to avoid a collision. His Mini had mounted the kerb and gone on to the footpath where it just missed a large tree. The Fiesta had turned into The Avenue without stopping.
